Why Punk Rarity??

As many of you know Rarity is my comfort character, I love her energy and confidence so much. In the episode "It Isn't the Mane Thing About You" she had a bout of potion-induced hair loss, and this hit her self-esteem pretty hard. Right away I could relate to that, as I'm sure we all can, it may not be hair-related but things can seriously hit your self-confidence hard. However, we can't let that get us down, with each blow we need to reinvent ourselves and push forward to do and be better than before.

How I made this Cosplay:

After retiring our Naruto cosplay the wig and clips were just kind of sitting around....not good, eventually, Dante pointed out I had the materials ready for this build, and it set me to work. First, the wig parts had to be dyed, cut, and sewn together then styled. (Which Is covered in our Punk Rarity Wig tutorial)

Once I had dyed all of my fibers I had to individually sew in the wefts for each new color, while I could have glued them, I prefer sewing as it's a stronger hold and much more reliable. After everything was sewn together came lots and lots of teasing so I could get the mohawk shape just right. As each section was teased, I blasted them with heat to set the tease into the fibers before brushing it out and repeating the step once more for extra volume.

From here it was a lot of sculpting with my hands and shaping the sections with heat, as I had already trimmed most fibers the wig didn't require much trimming aside from the ear and faux regrowth section along the mohawk side.

The jacket was probably the easiest part of this build, taking an old HT vest and some purple paint from Angelus, the vest was distressed with many many layers of purple wash. I didn't want a solid purple but an off-purple that looked well-loved. Think more of actual Punk than Glam Punk.

Ending Thoughts

If I ever come back and revamp this cosplay I'll likely make a different dress for it, the Walmart one we had worked quite well but I do think we can do better down the line.
