I had the opportunity to attend Light Fantastic, a con similar to Fotocon, where the main goal is Gorgeous Photography. The weekend was such a blast. Even with keeping as socially distanced as possible all the cosplayers, photographers, and assistants who came out were able to have a lot of fun together. From spoopy selfies and behind-the-scenes to late-night games.
During this weekend I had the pleasure of working with 4 photographers I had never met before, it was like jumping into the deep end and was so worthwhile. After the schedule came out I was able to talk to each one, plan which cosplay to shoot, what locations to hit, poses, and the overall theme.
First shoot ☆ DynaMight with Erik Jaws Photo

Being my first foray into the wild lands of Washington Island meant digging through photos and figuring out where to go. Thankfully Erik had the Mountain Lookout in mind for our shoot; with that detail taken care of I could focus on other aspects from posing to thinking of how our use of the Smoke bomb and sparklers would look. (More photos here)
It was my first time using Smoke Bombs and Sparklers in a shoot, and I'm so thankful I could explore them for the first time with Erik. His confidence and knowledge helped me feel at ease with the new medium.
Second Shoot ☆ Ram with Anthony H Nguyen Photography

Cutesy isn't a style I've explored much, so pairing with Anthony for Ram and her cute maid aesthetic was quite wonderful. We traversed around the Island to both the Lavender fields and the mini gardens around Stavkirke. Throughout the expedition, he was such a great guide for different posing ideas, as well as a great chatting buddy, going into the event I had felt so nervous and he set my mind at ease that day.
Third Shoot ☆ Danny Phantom with It's Kitty

Chatting with Kitty before our shoot we vibed instantly, both of us had fun with spooks and the like on the first night of the meeting. Creepy paintings anyone??
As we planned the shoot our goal was more eerie and aesthetic rather than towny. While Washington Island has its town area, it's not as modern as Amity Park. Taking to the woods next to the Gas station dubbed "The Spooky Woods”, we chatted away as the light faded and we took our photos.
All three of these shoots were in one day, back to back to back. It was so much fun, but also very draining, it helped me learn my limits in a day. Thankfully afterward I was able to relax and just chat with the other cosplayers and photographers the next day. We were able to play around and build our sense of community.
Fourth Shoot ☆ Cc with Hayley Stein

This shoot for Cc was the shoot I had been looking forward to the most. Cc is an absolute favorite character of mine and I wanted some stellar photos of this ensemble that I could cherish for a long time.
Code Geass has such a mixed setting that Cc could work anywhere on the island. So we went to the performing arts center, it was a great mixture of modern and garden so that we could get some wonderfully diverse shots for my cosplay.
Once my shoot with Hayley was over, I had to do a quick change before the final ferry off the island. We barely made the last ferry and returned to normal life.
I'm really looking forward to attending again in the future, this was such an amazing event and I'm so happy that I was able to make new friends and just be part of this wonderful community.
