LionCon was a wonderful first for me, I was invited to attend as a cosplay guest!! It was a blast, Dr. Frog, Ceasar, and I traveled to St Cloud for a fun-filled weekend of Cosplays, Panels, Contests, and photo fun during our downtime.
If you want to watch our video of the weekend click below, otherwise read on.
My first day at Lioncon was an adjustment, I had never stepped into a guest role before and felt so nervous. Thankfully the attendees were so welcoming and the staff made it an enjoyable time. When I arrived I got my badge, talked with staff for a little bit, then got ready for panels.
I ran 3 panels over the weekend, starting with "Stories of the Sword". It's a fun panel that talks about random fun scenes that have happened in various LARP groups I've been part of. Being a LARPer for years my friends and I have been able to do some wild things with our characters, it also lets us introduce people to the "other side of DnD" as some like to call it.
Next was LARP 101, and you probably can already guess what this covers.
Finally, my latest creation, "When the Show Starts, A Cosplay Contest Guide" I'd been working on this panel for quite some time to make it as comprehensive as possible. Being able to test it at LionCon helped me add the polish and fill in any gaps I hadn't thought of as a seasoned competitor. Getting to go through audience questions really made planning this panel even better and added so much more to it.
Later in the day was judging for their cosplay contest, where I was able to meet BBDesign or Brittney, who was such a kind-hearted person and helped me slide into judging with no worries. Although walking into judging can be quite worrisome, the other side isn't too bad. There are many factors to consider and be able to hear each person get so excited about what they made was refreshing.
Sunday was a very laid-back day at LionCon, Frog and I took the opportunity to mainly talk to new people and make some friends. I really hope we can connect with them again in the future at more events.
