This year Daisho was so nice, I finally took a year where I didn't run a whole bunch of panels, Getting to relax at the con and hang with friends was incredibly welcoming.
If you'd like to see the video version of events watch here, otherwise follow below for the rest of the article.
We started with a bit of pregaming on Thursday with friends and stayed out later than we should have. On Friday once I hit the con I got to break out my Demon Cheerleader(Remake TBD), it was so much fun and I'm excited to bring it out again in the future. Even though it was a bit cold haha.
Saturday was the big day, I had signed up to compete in my Cc cosplay, unfortunately when I arrived Timeline Cosplay let me know judging was running severely late.
We waited nearly 3 hours!! To see the judges, it was nuts just how bad it got. There was a point where Timeline went back to the staff members about how much longer and they said they just forgot/didn't think she'd want to.
When we finally exited judging we hopped over to the vendor's hall for some much-needed retail therapy. I had emailed the reps of Arda wigs in advance about getting a Venus in white at the con, thankfully they let me know they'd have 1 available. During judging I was so nervous it would be sold to somebody else, but by the grace of the cosplay gods, nobody had come to purchase it before me.
Eventually, Green Room time came around, and I did my usual round of water and snacks for anyone who needed it. This was actually when I learned an old acquaintance, now friend, from high school had started to cosplay, He4thbar!! I also met The Legend of Randy, Facade Costuming, CoraBubbles, and Steampunkery. It was great getting to chat and talk shop with all of them backstage.
When I first made Cc I hadn't initially thought of entering her into a contest, while she is finely made she is quite a simple ensemble. After more thought through the year, I figured why not and dove in for Daisho. While I didn't place, it was so nice to wear this cosplay onstage and I hope to do so again in the future.
Sometimes I struggle with feeling like my work is enough, especially the cosplays that seem simpler. So walking the stage in Cc felt so good and gave me back a lot of confidence, just as I preach in my "When the Show Starts" panel, simple isn't bad when it's done right.
Finally, it was Sunday, I took this as a shorter day as I had been asked to sit in on a Convention Horror Stories panel. We read some audience submissions and talked about our own experiences. It was quite fun and I hope to do another in the future. You can watch the horror stories panel below.
